In a remarkable rebuke of Republican leadership, the House passed legislation Thursday that would extend expired health care subsidies for those who get coverage through the Affordable Care Act as 17 renegade GOP lawmakers joined every Democrat in support.

U.S. House reps cast a successful bipartisan vote to extend ACA premium tax credits.

Restoring those subsidies would lead to 6.2 million more people enrolled in the program and cost the government $80.6 billion over 10 years, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.
