A database is an organized collection of structured information, or data, typically stored electronically in a computer system. Databases range from relational to cloud databases.
Alternatively called a databank or a datastore, and sometimes abbreviated as a DB, a database is a large quantity of indexed digital information. It can be searched, referenced, compared, changed or otherwise manipulated with optimal speed and minimal processing expense.
Databases are logical structures used to organize and store data for future processing, retrieval, or evaluation. In the context of computers, these structures are nearly always managed by an application called a database management system or DBMS.
